People in People
The chatter and gossip of contemporary life has little to do with how people living in the world act. What we encounter in real life is often trivial, but it creates huge narratives and endless stories. People in People, a glasses-shaped work, engraved with people, describes narratives forming parts of my life that I feel and observe.
I extract what I want to describe from someone's appearance, and express my own narratives, through the forms of other people, in representations of my autobiographical memory. This work manifests my life, here and now, though an unexaggerated, candid gaze, which excavates daily experience and memory, associated with people surrounding me.
I have had the opportunity to look back over my inner life, within the process of recalling those I know, and by looking for people I want to portray in my eyeglass work. The more my work is introverted, the more I come to know my inner self.
By seeing the people within the eyeglasses, I feel like they speak to me, and walk toward me. Through the narratives, I approach and communicate with them, and the narratives return to me again.
